Rear coil spring, I was wondering why the shimmy in the rear while braking was getting worse

Front strut starting to rust because of sand rubbing under the dust cover.

On my old car, the coil spring fell out of the seat and down the strut body. The piston rod also mis-struck and wasn;t going up and down straight like it should have.

Quick struts are awesome

Front struts not looking so hot. Rockauto sells the coil & strut combo for like $150 each, which would be worth it to just swap them out.

Yeah, the pre-built strut/spring assemblies are nice. Unless you want to go upgrading, it’s definitely what I’d recommend. Spring compressors are one of the more dangerous tools in the DIY arsenal, so if you don’t need to use them, it’s not a bad thing.

Truer words were never spoken, especially if we’re talking older cars that have been owned by rednecks.

This Equinox will replace my metro as a DD. So I’ll be hauling tools all the time, although mostly parking at work to drive work trucks. The rear springs I’ll get the professional ones as that’s where most of the weight will be.

I think it’ll be about $1,000 to get this right. But should last as far as body & suspension. It’s starting to leak or burn oil though. & I don't have to replace everything right now. As I get to them.

My wife has an Equinox. Maybe I should go check her springs!

I just saw that. $387 for fronts & rear shocks then $138 for rear springs. Depending on shipping. Damn.

This is first gen, ‘05 with 175K miles. So it's probably due for some Maintence items. Wife leased it then bought it.

Here’s a promo code for 5% off:
4109787333701281

Get the Monroe Quick Struts for the front, Monroe Reflex shocks for the rear, and Moog rear springs. They all come from the same warehouse, which saves on shipping.

Remeber, the springs are sold in pairs! So you only have to buy a quantity of one for the springs :)

Total with the promo code, but without the rebate, is $475. The rebate amount is $75.

I found the rear spring on Amazon for $6 cheaper and free shipping. Which is kind of the accendes heal for rock auto sometimes. I’ll do some more research and check back on it. I want to get a brake kit for the reason that’s everything for $85

aaah I see.

IME tho, Rock seems to be cheaper than Amazon even though there’s no free shipping.

In your case, Moog 81391 is $53.79 on Rock and $69.74 on Amazon.

Rear springs - Moog 81391 (sold by the pair, so you only need one)

Rear shocks - Monroe 911258 (x2)

Front struts - Monroe 172209 and 172210

and the 5% discount code I gave you above

What sucks is that I don't have a computer to make the rock auto web site easy to browse, I was looking at the $138 rear springs because it seems it'll be more HD and I'll have about 150-200 pounds of tools in the back all the time.

Also there is a kit for the 2 fronts and 2 rear shocks. A 227 set and $387 KYB set. I tend to get the more expensive parts of I'm doing it myself or Moog as I have. A buddy that works there. I don't get discounts from him but still.

I just looked again, and the more expensive springs don’t seem to be marked HD. None of them are marked HD. Brands do vary in price, but Moog springs are usually good quality stuff.

It does say professional or something, not sure what or if that makes a difference. But it mentioned in the discription about it won’t change the gvwr

That kit seems like a good deal since it includes the quick struts. Once you add the rear springs (same Moog springs mentioned before), and KYB’s rebate, it comes out to the roughly same price as the Monroe. KYB shocks are good stuff. For a little more, you can upgrade the rear shocks to their Gas-a-Just line.

In regards to the springs, “professional” is just one of ACDelco’s product lines. The professional line is just reboxed aftermarket parts, they could very well be the same as the Moog for 1/3 of the price.

Delco’s other product lines are GM Original Equipment, which is the OE parts. Then they have Advantage, which is low-grade cheap shit.
